CONNECTION

“If you believe- Mano to Ganga Jal, na mano to sirf Pani”( If you believe Ganges water is holy which is considered to be divine, or else its just water) it’s what is faith all Hindus believes, the living river who give peace to our soul, The Ganges

The Maha Kumbh Mela 2025, a once-in-144-year spectacle, drew millions to the Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj. From January 13th to February 26th, this confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and mythical Saraswati rivers became the epicenter of spiritual fervor, attracting an estimated 400-450 million pilgrims. My own journey to this historic event was a testament to faith, resilience, and the unexpected kindness that often accompanies such pilgrimages.

Growing up immersed in Hindu mythology through my father’s stories of the Mahabharata, Ramayana, and the Sostani Vrat, the Maha Kumbh held a special significance. He taught me the fundamental unity of God despite the diversity of faiths, a value that resonated deeply as I contemplated this massive gathering. The media’s reports of overwhelming crowds initially deterred me. However, the sheer scale of the event—with millions already participating—eventually inspired me to embark on my own pilgrimage.

The journey itself became an integral part of the experience. Faced with fully booked trains, I opted for a flight to Patna, the ancient Patliputra. Stepping out of the airport, I was immediately met with the usual throng of drivers and agents. A chance encounter led me to a biker who, despite the city’s ongoing metro construction and traffic, promised to get me to the bus stand in time for my 9 pm bus to Prayagraj. His confidence and expertise in navigating the inner roads proved invaluable, delivering me just in the nick of time.

The bus journey, however, was far from smooth. A sudden 30-minute stop at 4:30 am turned into a 5-hour standstill on a bridge connecting Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. As the sun rose and the delay stretched on, some passengers abandoned the journey. I, too, wrestled with the thought of returning to Patna, mindful of my work commitments. It was then that an elderly pilgrim, walking with a stick, offered words of wisdom: “The road to meet God is not easy; patience is essential, and the reward for patience is immeasurable.”

HURDLE

These words resonated deeply. Just as I was about to give up, the bus finally moved. The driver, skillfully navigating back roads to avoid blockades near Varanasi and Muzaffarpur, took us on a 14-hour odyssey. Food was scarce, and a highway dhaba became our only option. Even there, a 30-minute wait for food tested our patience. Finally, after a long and tiring journey, we reached the Sahson flyover in Phulpur, Prayagraj. But the Sangam was still 15 km away, and private vehicles were barred due to the immense traffic.

Luck smiled upon me again. I found a group of pilgrims negotiating with a driver who agreed to take one more passenger in his open cargo carrier. I joined them, embarking on a thrilling, bumpy ride through villages and jungles. We were dropped off at the Raut Beer Baba Mandir, from where the Triveni Ghat was still a considerable distance.

As I walked towards the Sangam, the sight of thousands of lights illuminating the night sky was breathtaking. It was a truly awe-inspiring spectacle. A chance encounter with a tent maker who initially agreed to give me a ride and then, due to a work commitment, had to drop me after a few kilometers, again showed me the kindness that is still there in the world. He even refused to take the money I offered.

From there, I hired an auto-rickshaw to cover the remaining distance. Finally, after a long walk across a temporary bridge, I reached my destination: the Triveni Sangam. The sight of hundreds of people bathing in the holy waters was overwhelming. The atmosphere was electric with devotion. UP police, NSG personnel, and volunteers ensured smooth management of the crowds. I realized I wasn’t alone in undertaking this arduous journey; pilgrims from all corners of India, and even international visitors from South Korea and Japan, were there, united by their faith.

THE SOUL BOOSTER

The dip in the Sangam was more than just a ritual; it was a soul-stirring experience, a profound sense of fulfillment. The water was dark and clear, a metaphor for the unseen yet undeniable presence of the divine. The journey back home was filled with reflections on the incredible experience. The Maha Kumbh, with its blend of spiritual significance, cultural richness, and logistical challenges, is a testament to the enduring power of faith. It’s a reminder that the path to spiritual awakening, like any meaningful journey, often requires patience, resilience, and an open heart to the unexpected kindness that surrounds us.

The experience was great, as the journey continued and post my job at Trivani Sangam, I started my return journey it was already two days with out sleep since 2 am the last morning got up for dropping my friend at airport and till now just a broken naps on bus journey, the dip in cold water refreshed me from inside,

Some one told me on visit to Mahakumb ” You take medicine for boosting immunity, but for some soul boosting is taking this holy bath.”

certainly it was true a journey never before, form many positives and negatives, but i am taking positive prospects like, though i had to wait for 6 hrs in block, walked more than 5 to 10 Km, where there is still availability of transport, there were opportunist charging huge from the needy, with all these there were better experience, people how amid Opportunity helped people, people like Ankit Upadhaya and Santosh Yadav gave lift helped many like me, for them it was a service, if we talked about opportunist flight tickets were 10 to 15 times aren’t they opportunist. I too was bit angry on this high rates, but a family from Singapore, who were from ISCON changed the perception in a flip of thought.

The airport was filled with visitors, and there were limited seats, when I entered the airport this family was just entering before me at arrivals as there were no flights then and to accommodate the arrivals area was dedicated for visitors, and since the day this event started area used to be filled with people.

As i could see people sitting every where, this family with three kids arranged themselves in the corner, i happened to go and meet them as we already introduced each other during entrance. ” I said due to rush we have to adjust like this, sorry for inconvenience. To my surprise his one sentence changed the perception of mine, before a minute I was criticizing on airport arrangement for no seat at least for sitting, 50 odd seats and 80+ people, you know what he said

‘WHEN THE AIRPORTS LOOKS LIKE BUS STATION DUE TO RUSH, BELIEVE YOU ARE PROGRESSING.” such a positive thought, really this is how perception transforms, I too forgot the classy attitude of showing off and gave a tight 2 hrs sleep on the floor, I was much happy now, a tired body took a better rest.

The clarity of mind on being simple and true to self, avoiding show off and being original living for self not to show others, what a great thought it was,

this short journey was altogether a life changing for me, what i took with me is
