Do you know? Why “San Juan” is so attractive ?
It was a 2 days break when two friends did not meet as there were school tests for her and he was playing games in tab for two days and today he was eagerly waiting for another adventure-filled journey destination by his friend
I saw a wallpaper on my computer and was curious to know the beautiful natural place, so I researched about it, I shared this with my dad, he made sure to meet Ms Antra who explained her journey to San Juan. and to my utmost surprise she expressed it in a very vivid manner.
San Juan is nestled in the northwestern region of Argentina. To get there, you can fly into Domingo Faustino Sarmiento Airport in San Juan. From there, you can rent a car or take a taxi to your accommodation. If you’re planning to visit the Ischigualasto Provincial Park (also known as the Valley of the Moon), it’s a long trip from San Juan of about 300 kilometers.
Where to Stay
During my visit, I stayed at the El Chiflon Posta Pueblo. It’s a charming place with a rating of 8 out of 10 on TripAdvisor. Another good option is the Hosteria Huaco, which has a rating of 7.5 out of 10 on Booking.com. For those on a budget, Hotel Ischigualasto is a decent low-cost hotel with basic facilities.
Best Time to Visit
The best time to visit San Juan is during the afternoon, preferably for the 2 PM tour. The climate is very dry, with rainfall mostly during the summer, and temperature extremes (minimum −10 °C or 14 °F, maximum 45 °C or 113 °F). So make sure to pack accordingly!
What to Do and See
San Juan is home to the Ischigualasto Provincial Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The park is known for its moon-like appearance and is home to some of the world’s oldest dinosaur remains. It’s a popular site for paleontological research, making it a must-visit for history and science buffs.
Apart from Ischigualasto, there are several other attractions in San Juan. The Ruta Nacional 150 is a scenic drive that offers stunning views. The Casa Natal de Sarmiento is a National Historic Monument dedicated to Domingo Faustino Sarmiento, a former president of Argentina who was born here. The Ruta del Olivo San Juan offers an insight into the local olive oil production.
Historical Significance
The name “Ischigualasto” is derived from the extinct Cacán language and means “place where the moon alights. The first paleontological description of Ischigualasto dates from 1930111. In 1941, the area was studied in more detail, leading to the discovery of 70 species of fossil plants.

Over the past two decades, there have been significant changes in Ischigualasto for tourist attraction. While I couldn’t find specific details about these changes, it’s clear that efforts have been made to preserve and promote this unique site. One local shared an anecdote about how these changes have positively impacted tourism and helped bring global recognition to this remarkable place.
Planning Your Visit
When planning your visit, remember that you must enter Ischigualasto Park with your own car. So if you don’t have one, you’ll need to rent one or go with a remis Also, keep in mind that while it’s easy to visit due to its well-preserved condition and established tourist facilities, it’s also important to respect this ancient site and stick to designated areas.
